Grassley grants Kavanaugh accuser another extension

"She has already been forced out of her home and continues to be subjected to harassment, hate mail, and death threats".

The woman whose sexual assault allegation threatens to bring down Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee rejected an ultimatum Friday for testifying in the Senate after the USA president turned against her, claiming her accusation could not be true.

The timetable brought cries of protest from Democrats, who have called on the FBI to investigate the allegations made by Christine Blasey Ford, a professor from California, and to expand the number of witnesses who would be called beyond Ford and Kavanaugh.

Approval of Kavanaugh would cement conservative control of the Supreme Court and advance a White House effort to tilt the American judiciary farther to the right. But she's clearly made a decision to embrace the role of partisan adversary.

She wants a single photographer in the room. "It's not my normal approach" to be "indecisive", Grassley tweeted.

The Senate Judiciary Committee, which oversees Supreme Court nominations, is due to meet next Monday and has invited Ms Ford and Mr Kavanaugh to testify.

"I'm extending the deadline for response yet again to 10 o'clock this evening".

Shortly before Mr. Trump sent his tweets Friday morning, senior White House aide Kellyanne Conway was telling reporters that Republicans had no reason to attack Ford.

Kavanaugh has denied the allegation and pledged to testify at Monday's hearing. On the Senate Judiciary Committee zero Republicans are women.

She also wants to subpoena Mark Judge, a friend of Kavanaugh's who was alleged to be present during the assault, and who has in recent days drawn scrutiny for his track record of offensive comments about women.

At a midterms campaign rally in Las Vegas late on Thursday, Trump told the crowd that he fully backs Kavanaugh.

The Sharifs were taken to Nur Khan Airbase, Chaklala, from where they will be flown to Lahore in a private aircraft. Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Athar Minallah were the IHC bench members who summoned that hearing.

"I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!" he tweeted. In a freaky turn, one of those allies, the conservative legal analyst Edward Whelan, posted pictures on Twitter Thursday night of a high school classmate of Kavanaugh's - with the man's name - and suggested he was responsible for the assault.

Gillibrand also argued that Ford's call for an FBI investigation bolstered her credibility.

However, Ms Katz suggested there appeared to be room for negotiation when she sent a letter to the committee after the phone call, saying: "The only issue I said was a deal breaker was that Dr Ford can not appear at a hearing on Monday". Susan Collins, R-Maine. "I'm not saying that's what happened in this case - but we know allegations of sexual assault are one of the most unreported crimes that exist". The committee's 11 Republicans - all men - have been seeking an outside female attorney to interrogate Ford, mindful of the election-season impression that could be left by men trying to pick apart a woman's assertion of a sexual attack. Before the 2016 presidential election, more than a dozen women accused Trump of making unwanted advances.

Another New England senator, Democratic Sen. "I say, let her say what she has to say". His ascension to the Supreme Court seemed a sure bet until Ford emerged last weekend and provided details of an alleged assault. She wants the FBI to investigate to establish a baseline of facts about what she and others say before she'll agree to talk to the Judiciary Committee, especially in a public hearing.

The panel rejected some of the other demands, including that Kavanaugh testify first, that the committee call additional witnesses that Ford requests, and that only senators be allowed to ask questions.

After going through psychotherapy, Ford said, she now understands the incident as a trauma that has had lasting impact on her life.

A combination photo of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. His aides had repeatedly reminded him how important it is for Republicans to get Kavanaugh confirmed.

Ms Ford's lawyers said earlier this week that she would not appear before the Senate until the FBI has investigated the allegations.

Republicans hold a 51-49 majority in the Senate.
