Tropical Storm Kirk of 'immediate concern' to BVI

Tropical Storm Kirk of 'immediate concern' to BVI

That was the scenario Sunday morning as forecasters at the National Hurricane Center watched four tropical weather systems in the Atlantic basin - a pair of minimal tropical storms, a dissipating tropical depression and another disturbance that could threaten the flood-weary Carolinas.

NHC forecasts keep it at tropical storm strength as it crosses the Atlantic over the next week.

NHC forecasters say that an even faster westward motion across the deep tropical Atlantic Ocean is expected through Tuesday.

The NHC said that it will not be issuing any more advisories on Tropical Depression Eleven as it degenerated into a "trough of low pressure". Maximum sustained winds are near 40 miles per hour with higher gusts.

The Atlantic hurricane season lasts until November 30. It is possible that this system could acquire tropical or sub-tropical characteristics in the coming days. It is moving rapidly to the west at 18 miles per hour.

By the middle of next week, strong upper-level winds are likely to limit additional development as the system turns northward and moves closer to the southeastern coast of the United States.
