The victor of the prestigious award organised by France Football magazine will be announced on December 3.

Wales forward Gareth Bale and England striker Harry Kane are among the nominees for the 2018 Ballon d'Or, BBC Sport reports.

The Tottenham striker captained England to their first World Cup semi-final in 28 years in Russian Federation this summer.

Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann, two key members of the France national team that sailed to their second-ever World Cup trophy are also likely to finish with high tallies, as are Eden Hazard and Kevin de Bruyne, members of Belgium's star-studded side that came third at Russian Federation 2018.

Four other Premier League players have been named - Manchester City's Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne and Alisson and Roberto Firmino of Liverpool.

Two goalkeepers are also among the first 15 - Thibaut Courtois of Belgium and Real Madrid and Liverpool and Brazil stopper Alisson Becker.

Modric's worldwide team-mates Mario Mandzukic and Ivan Rakitic are also on the shortlist, as are Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

The player with the most points will be awarded the Ballon d'Or, while the player with the most first picks will claim the prize in the event of a tie.
