Federer claims 99th ATP title with Basel triumph

In the semifinals, Nishikori will meet Kazakhstani qualifier Mikhail Kukushkin, who battled back to survive Hungary's Marton Fucsovics 4-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4) in a 3-hour, 17-minute marathon.

Federer hinted after his latest victory that he may not play at the Swiss Indoors in the future.

The 28-year-old Copil came to Basel with career prize money - $1.67 million - significantly less than Federer earned just for winning the Australian Open in January.

"Maybe I had to win it through good returning, through fighting and all that stuff, so maybe differently than some of my past tournament victories", Federer said.

Copil will be competing in the biggest match of his career after overcoming second seed Zverev, with the Romanian having dropped just one set this week.

It still took him four match points over three games to get the job done against a player he beat in three sets in the first round of the Shanghai Masters this month.

Amari Cooper asked Raiders to trade him
If their scoring unit is unable to turn things around in 2018, the Raiders could be acquiring a top-10 pick in next April's draft. After all, the Raiders find themselves playing from behind a fair amount and this should equate to even more looks for Nelson.

The 37-year-old delighted the home support to land his ninth Swiss Indoors title, winning 7-6 (5) 6-4.

Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski beat America's Mike Bryan and France's Edouard Roger-Vasselin 7-6 (5) 6-3 in the doubles final in Vienna. He has never lost a final to an opponent ranked below No. 87.

"It will be a challenge but I'm excited to see how I feel tomorrow, playing a young guy", said Federer. In the quarters, Federer found himself in 2-5 trouble after another sluggish start, with Simon quickly finding his range against the number three.

Federer clinched minutes after saving a break point, taking his first match-point chance when Copil sent a backhand into the net.

But the veteran clawed his way back to 4-4 and broke again to lead 5-4.

The top-seeded Swiss rallied from trailing by a service break in each set against the 93rd-ranked Romanian, whose serve was measured at 243 kph (151 mph) in his opening service game. But two unforced errors in a row handed Federer the match.
