Google Pixel 3 features OLED display panel manufactured by LG, reveals teardown

Google Pixel 3 features OLED display panel manufactured by LG, reveals teardown

First of those is the fact that Google has used a Samsung-made AMOLED screen in the new Pixel 3 XL.

The chip is integrated into the bootloader of the phone, so it participates in verifying that the Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL is running the right version of Android, by storing the last known safe version of Android for the device. "We have temporarily removed it from Pixel 3 and are assessing where it will be implemented in the future". Unlike traditional cases of SIM-locking, this was only a temporary lock which according to Verizon would immediately be lifted following a software update which would arrive within 24 hours of the phone being activated on Verizon's network.

Once again, there's plenty of adhesive, which is still repair-friendly and you'd need only a T3 Torx screwdriver for the whole process. This is unlike the a year ago Pixel family that had the larger, Pixel 2 XL with a panel from LG and the smaller, Pixel 2 with a Samsung display.

Huawei unveils Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, takes aim at Apple, Samsung
The Mate 20 comes with a rear mounted fingerprint scanner, whereas the Mate 20 Pro comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner. The Mate 20 Pro will be available in five colors - Classic Black, Twilight, Pink Gold, Midnight Blue, and Emerald Green.

Although Google has unveiled its mostly unsurprising Pixel 3 range, the pair has yet to fall into the hands of customers who've pre-ordered. This policy is part of an anti-theft initiative that Verizon rolled out earlier this year to discourage folks from stealing from its retail stores.

That helps explain the PIxel 3 and Pixel 3 XL's great results for color gamut, accuracy and more in DisplayMate's latest phone display tests. Sadly, this leaves the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL with an underwhelming score of just 4 out of 10. As in spite of the Pixel 3 only technically having become available to buy in the U.S. yesterday, there is a very good chance a number of devices had already been sold via pre-orders which opened through Verizon more than a week ago.
