Jurgen Klopp delivers mixed injury news ahead of Liverpool's trip to Huddersfield

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has renewed his criticism of the Nations League, saying football doesn't need the new competition in an already packed calendar.

Klopp described the new competition as "senseless" prior to the recent global break and took the opportunity to air his opinion at a news conference on Friday afternoon.

Speaking on Thursday, Wagner played down suggestions that Liverpool might be without a string of top names after the likes of Mohamed Salah (groin), Virgil van Dijk (rib) and Naby Keita (muscle) suffered injuries on global duty.

"At one point we have to think do we want opera every night, or every two months?"

At his pre-match press conference, Klopp said: "I'm pretty sure Naby will not be available".

"I could have just told my coffee machine because nobody is really interested". When can we have normal things?

Salah and Van Dijk withdrew from their national teams over the global break amid fitness concerns, but trained at Melwood on Thursday afternoon.

There was mixed news elsewhere in terms of injuries with Naby Keita ruled out for at least the game on Saturday after coming back from global duty with a muscle injury.

Naby Keita picked up a thigh injury playing for Guinea against Rwanda and will miss tomorrow's Premier League matchup.

"With all the rest, we have to see how it develops", added Klopp, who said he had no issue with the pitch or the method of Keita's departure from it.

Saturday's game will see Klopp lineup alongside his close friend and former Mainz teammate David Wagner in the dugout.

The striker has scored four goals in nine appearances across all competitions, but remarkably is yet to start a Premier League fixture.

"I use the word "trap".
