The atmosphere at Old Trafford was rather flat as United lacked any bite in a contest played at walking pace, with the visitors content to keep them at bay with crisp one-touch passing.

The poor start to the 2018/19 campaign comes in Mourinho's third season at Manchester United, a period where the Portuguese has achieved somewhat infamy in falling out with his club.

Valencia struggled to create chances as Michy Batshuayi muscled his way around United defenders constantly giving them trouble though they managed to hold out their attacks.
