Pompeo will also travel to Japan, South Korea and China from October 6-8, and will be in North Korea on Sunday local time, or Saturday in U.S. Eastern Time.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo meets Pakistani Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi at the State Department in Washington, Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018.

"It looks like we'll have a second summit quite soon", he said. The invitation to return to Pyongyang to discuss North Korean denuclearization efforts was made during a meeting with North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho amid United Nations sessions last week. He will also travel to Japan, South Korea and China on his swing through Asia, she said.

In his speech at the UN General Assembly, Trump thanked Kim "for his courage and for the steps he has taken".

The United States argues the sanctions should remain in place until North Korea has fully and verifiably denuclearized.

The North entered talks with the United States and South Korea earlier this year, saying it's willing to negotiate away its advancing nuclear arsenal.

But North Korea has yet to take concrete steps to give up its nuclear arsenal, so there's been no let-up in sanctions that have been imposed to deprive it of fuel and revenue for its weapons programs, and to block it from bulk cash transfers and accessing to the global banking system. Washington has also resisted calls to relax tough worldwide sanctions.

A commentary on North Korea's official KCNA news agency this week, however, said the declaration should have been resolved half a century ago and it could never be a bargaining chip to persuade it to denuclearize. Follow-up talks between the countries stalled, with Pyongyang accusing Washington of making "unilateral and gangster-like" demands on denuclearization.

Rupee plunges to fresh record low of 73.77 against dollar
A labourer carries an iron pipe at the construction site of a residential complex on the outskirts of Kolkata, October 5, 2018. Mr Gandhi took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday, accusing him of remaining silent over the rupee crisis.

He said in a statement last month the United States aimed for North Korean denuclearization by that date, but a week later Trump said he did not have a time frame.

"Watchers say the Pyongyang media may have intentionally dropped Ri's contact with the USA and Japan due to the sensitivity of the North's relations with the two countries. That that can only help us to achieve our final goal". He said there should be no sanctions relief until there's at least "concrete steps" toward denuclearization.

While speaking at a rally in Wheeling, West Virginia, over the weekend, Trump said that he and Kim "fell in love". Last week, Trump accused China of seeking to meddle in the November 6 USA congressional elections, saying it did not want his Republican Party to do well.

This will be Pompeo's fourth visit to North Korea since he became secretary of state.

"In any relationship you have your high points, you have your medium points and with some countries you have your low points", she said.

"I think the last time things broke down precisely as we were working out a detailed protocol on verification after we had gotten the list", she said.
