Ramaphosa appoints new finance minister

Briefing the media, Ramaphosa said he had accepted Nhlanhla Nene's resignation.

There is no suggestion that he had done anything illegal in meeting the businessmen during his stint as deputy finance minister and finance minister in Mr Zuma's government, but he has been under intense political pressure to step down since making the admission.

Jonas told a judicial panel last month that Ajay Gupta offered him the post of finance minister and a R600 million ($40.3 million) bribe in exchange for business concessions.

The 59-year old former central bank governor headed the South African Reserve Bank from 1999 to 2009.

News24 has independently obtained confirmation that Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene has asked President Cyril Ramaphosa to relieve him of his duties.

The Guptas, who face numerous allegations of using their friendship with former leader Jacob Zuma for mutual self-enrichment, have consistently denied any wrongdoing. They fled the country after Mr. Zuma's resignation in February and now live in Dubai.

Fabregas willing to extend stay at Chelsea under Sarri
Brazilian-born Italy worldwide Jorginho starred for Sarri at Napoli before following him to Stamford Bridge in the summer. He was stressing out a bit, so the goal will do him a lot of good. "I know that he suffers as he cares a lot".

As mentioned previously, FEMA constructed the test as a way to see if any improvements to the system are necessary. On Wednesday, October 3, more than 225 million Americans received a text message they were not able to block.

SpaceX launch and landing in California
SpaceX has previously landed first stage rockets on land after Florida launches but had not done so on the West Coast. A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying an Argentinian satellite has blasted off from California.

"I was wrong in meeting the Guptas at their residence and not in my office or at least a public place", his public apology letter read. "It is a measure of his character and his commitment to the national interest that he has taken this decision to resign in the wake of errors of judgment, even though he has not been implicated in acts of wrongdoing".

The party, which has been vocal in its demand for Nene's sacking over the past few days, now wants Ramaphosa to fire Minister in the Presidency Bathabile Dlamini and Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba.

He added that Nene feared his testimony to the inquiry "detracted from the important task of serving the people of South Africa particularly as we work to re-establish public trust in government".

All eyes will now be on a much anticipated announcement by Moody's on SA's sovereign credit rating on Friday, and Mboweni's maiden medium-term budget policy statement in two weeks.

"South Africa is undergoing serious economic difficulties and massive job losses, and one of the ingredients towards economic recovery is a credible Minister of Finance", said Julius Malema, head of the opposition Economic Freedom Fighters.
