Rosmah arrested by MACC, set to be charged tomorrow

The media reported yesterday that Rosmah had to present herself at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya this morning to assist the graft busters in their investigations.

Ms Rosmah was summoned separately for questioning by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in the administrative capital of Putrajaya, her second visit in as many weeks.

It said in a brief statement Wednesday that Rosmah will be taken to court on Thursday to face "several charges" related to money laundering, without giving details.

Her arrest follows three rounds of questioning by anti-graft agents over state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), from which USA authorities say more than US$4.5 billion ($6.32 billion) was misappropriated.

Rosmah is expected to be charged in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court at 8am tomorrow.

Last Wednesday, Rosmah was reportedly questioned for almost 13 hours by the MACC.

Malaysians have been outraged by the seizure of around $275 million worth of cash and goods, including a vast collection of Hermes Birkin and other designer handbags, jewelry and watches from properties linked to the couple. Najib has said the items were mostly gifts to his family.

Her lawyers, K. Kumaraendran and Datuk Geethan Ram Vincent, earlier told reporters that the nature of the charges against Rosmah was still unclear.

Wearing a bright green traditional dress, Rosmah smiled at reporters but didn't speak as she was escorted into the agency's building.

Coincidentally, Najib will also appear in court Thursday for the management of his own corruption case.

"I can accept taking action on a man who was in power, but putting the women in his life in harm's way is going too far", she wrote on Instagram, citing a recent police raid on the house of Najib's mother as well as Rosmah's arrest.

Mr Najib, 64, arrived at the anti-money laundering and anti-terror financing division of the police to give a statement in connection with a money laundering probe, media said.
