Search for Jamal Khashoggi takes police to forest in Istanbul, resort town

After more than two weeks, U.S. President Donald Trump said October 18 that he now believes Khashoggi is dead and warned of "very severe" consequences should Saudi Arabia be proven responsible.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is denying a report that Turkish officials shared with him an audio recording and transcript of the alleged murder of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, who went missing over two weeks ago after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

House Democratic Whip Steny H Hoyer said the reported death of Khashoggi at the hands of Saudi officials is appalling, as is the Trump Administration's failure to hold the government of Saudi Arabia accountable for its actions.

During Pompeo's visit, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan assured him that they would share the results from their investigation with the Saudis as well.

The Trump White House may have too much at stake to make Saudi Arabia pay a proportionate price for the apparent murder of Jamal Khashoggi.

"There are more structural problems with the relationship (between the USA and Saudi Arabia) that relate to Mohammed bin Salman's consolidation of power", said Barbara A. Leaf, senior fellow at The Washington Institute and former US ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.

"Fox Business Network has canceled its sponsorship and participation in the Future Investment Initiative conference in Saudi Arabia". But we'll see what happens'.

Turkish police are also investigating other consular vehicles that visited places in and around Istanbul immediately after the disappearance.

However, Turkish media reported that it appeared as though the consulate had been swept by Saudi agents before the search. Trump says that Saudi Arabia is valued as a historic customer for the U.S. weapons industry.

The judges ruled the ban against girls and women aged between 10 and 50 as discriminatory and, therefore, unconstitutional. The protesters alleged that they had resorted to stone-throwing in retaliation after the policemen hurled stones at them.

"We're working with the intelligence from numerous countries", he said. "This is the best intelligence we could have".

Saudi Arabia denies the killing but, under pressure from Britain, France and Germany, only recently began an investigation.

Khashoggi, who had been living in the US, went missing more than two weeks ago after he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

Turkish officials have also provided several United States media outlets with passport scans of seven men suspected of being involved in Khashoggi's disappearance - several of whom have links to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.

"Canada has said this with a very strong voice".

Meanwhile, several high-profile human rights groups have demanded that Turkey ask the United Nations to investigate the possible killing of Mr Khashoggi. But one of the key figures in the Saudi-U.S. alliance is receiving particular scrutiny for his role, or lack thereof, in the response: Jared Kushner, the president's son-in-law.

"I still want to wish and hope that he is alive and so on", Kislakci said. The Turkish government claims he was murdered there.
