While on Saturday there is a "danger to life" alert over potential flooding due to rain covering Lothian and Borders and Dumfries and Galloway.

Power cuts, travel disruption and hard driving conditions are also predicted, with yellow weather warnings for wind covering Northern Ireland and western parts of Wales, England and Scotland throughout Friday.

Today's unseasonably warm weather will be replaced by the strong winds and heavy rain felt at the beginning of the week as we head into Friday and Saturday.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said of Friday's warnings: "Rainfall totals will reach 40 to 80mm widely, with 120 to 160mm likely over the high ground exposed to the south and south west".

"Further strong winds may bring down leaves and branches, increasing the likelihood of flooding due to blocked drains or culverts".

"You can expect hard driving conditions with standing water and heavy spray and a risk of localised flooding causing potential disruption to travel".

Flood defenses in Carmarthen were breached for the first time since their construction 30 years ago after the River Towy burst its banks, flooding homes and cutting off power for some 2,000 homes and businesses.
