Trump says he's not firing Rod Rosenstein

President Donald Trump has arrived in Orlando as he prepares to address law enforcement from around the world at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.

Trump told a police chiefs convention in Orlando on Monday that he'd order his attorney general to send officials "to help straighten out the awful shooting wave" in Chicago.

"There's no reason for what's going on there", Trump said, adding that the controversial practice where police are able to stop, question and pat-down individuals they deem suspicious works when it is "properly applied".

As the Chicago Sun-Times notes, Chicago police now use stop-and-frisk tactics, but they're not unfettered.

Trump has often credited New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, now his personal lawyer in the Russian Federation investigation, with rolling back New York's crime rate through aggressive police practices like 'stop and frisk'.

'Politicians who spread this unsafe anti-police sentiment make life easier for criminals and more risky for law-abiding citizens, and they also make it more unsafe for police, and it must stop, and it must stop now, ' he said. They also say terminating either Justice official would be Trump's opening move toward eventually firing Mueller or shutting down his investigation.

"For too many years we have watched politicians escalate political attacks on our courageous police officers, and I've never seen it more than over the last few years", he said.

A report previous year by former U.S. Magistrate Judge Arlander Keys to assess how Chicago was compiling with the agreement on stop-and-frisk noted a dramatic decrease in the number of stops since the ACLU lawsuit, but found that officers were still targeting racial minorities.

Premier League stats: Manchester City could improve on last season, says Gracenote
Ahead of the game, Klopp tried to play down Mohamed Salah's slump in form after an incredible 44-goal debut season at Anfield. Liverpool still have not conceded a Premier League goal at Anfield this season, or indeed since last February.

Hamilton wins in Japan and moves closer to F1 title
Fellow Frenchman Romain Grosjean completed the race without telemetry information following an early fire on his Haas F1 vehicle . I don't regret the move, obviously with that outcome you would do it differently because with hindsight it's always easy.

A pool reporter asked Trump how the meeting went as he deplaned in Orlando. But if he changes his mind, advisers have urged Trump to wait until after the November midterm elections.

The president highlighted the efforts of the federal government to help local law enforcement officers stem the tide of lethal drugs that make their way across the USA borders.

"Every single day of my administration we will stand for law, order and justice", the commander-in-chief told those assembled.

Rosenstein and Trump had been expected to meet at the White House days later, but that meeting was put off so that the president could focus on the confirmation hearing of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. The Justice Department in the Trump administration has said reducing violent crime and supporting local enforcement are priorities.

Trump said Kavanaugh would be "a faithful defender of the rule of law".

The International Association of Chiefs of Police is the world's largest professional association for police leaders.

The number of shooting victims is also on the decline.

"Today, I'm announcing another $42.4 million for the high-intensity drug trafficking areas program".
