Woman stabs 14 kids in Chinese kindergarten

At least 14 children were injured on Friday in a knife attack at a kindergarten in Chongqing, south-west China, reported BBC.

The 39-year-old assailant used a kitchen knife to slashed students while they were returning to the classroom after morning exercises, said the Banan district public security bureau in Chongqing city on its official social media account.

Videos circulating on Chinese social media showed small children bleeding from severe cuts to their faces at the entrance of the kindergarten as stunned adults looked on.

In another incident previous year, a man climbed the wall of a kindergarten and knifed 11 children.

These attacks are often blamed on people with the mental illness or the personal grievances. The woman who carried out the attack is now in police custody and an investigation is ongoing.

Friday's incident isn't the first time children in China have been hurt at school by people wielding knives.

In January 2017, a man armed with a kitchen knife stabbed and wounded 11 children at a kindergarten in southern Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. Nine students were killed at a middle school in Shaanxi province in April by a 28-year-old man who was later sentenced to death.

Nearly 20 children were killed in school attacks in 2010, prompting a response from top government officials and leading many schools to add gates and security guards.
