Paul Ryan Slams the Brakes: Trump Can't Change Birthright Citizenship Without Congress

"We're the only country in the world where a person comes in and has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States", Trump told Axios in an interview that aired Tuesday.

"It was always told to me that you needed a constitutional amendment, but you don't".

Mr Trump also said it was "ridiculous" that you get citizenship if you are born in the United States and not a citizen.

"You can not end birthright citizenship with an executive order", Ryan told a Kentucky radio station Tuesday.

One member of Congress, Republican US Senator Lindsey Graham said he would move forward to introduce legislation "along the same lines" as Trump's order. "It's ridiculous. It's ridiculous".

Several other countries, including Canada, have a policy of birthright citizenship. It also guarantees citizens "equal protection" under US law.

Cox Plate results: Winx is the victor for the 4th time
Therefore it was not unreasonable to wonder about the quality of competition Winx had faced in her Cox Plate hat-trick. On Thursday I rang a few close mates to have a bit of a chat, I just try to do things to keep my mind occupied.

It went on: "So we are excited to announce today that Nightscape is going to be coming to the OnePlus 6 starting later this week". It comes with OIS/EIS support and Nightscape mode, that is introduced to enhance low-light photography without flash.

The problem with this interpretation is that it's relatively new, and runs contrary to the way the 14th amendment has been enforced since ratified in the 19th century.

Proponents of birthright citizenship say it allows anyone born on USA soil to be granted automatic US citizenship regardless of legal status of the parents. Changing it would nearly certainly require a constitutional amendment, not an executive order or legislation, experts said.

What we need for the immigration issue is law that is actually legislated, not another executive order that would probably survive only until we elect the next Democrat to the White House.

On Monday, his administration moved to send more than 5,200 troops to help secure the border with Mexico as a caravan of Central American migrants makes its way there.

On Tuesday morning, Rep. Justin Amash, a Michigan Republican who frequently vocalizes his differences with the president, emphasized that ending birthright citizenship would require a constitutional amendment. Although changes to the birthright citizenship are in debate every few years, it is for the first time that a USA president has talked about revoking it by an executive order.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said that she's more confident about the midterms for Democrats than ever before, vowing on CBS's "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" that "we will win". "The 14th Amendment's citizenship guarantee is clear". "All persons in the USA, thus, except for accredited foreign diplomats in specified instances, are subject to US laws, and, if born in the US, are USA citizens".
