Ted Cruz projected to defeat Beto O'Rourke in Texas Senate race

In Texas, the race between Cruz and O'Rourke is one that could help determine control of the Senate.

Ted Cruz and Democratic challenger Beto O'Rourke could indicate the political future of "ruby red" Texas; revealing whether the Lone Star State could "turn blue" due to shifting demographics and a wave of younger voters.

Inside the Cruz rally, Triumph yelled, "Ted, quick question, I have a preexisting condition that makes me vomit out of my eyes whenever I look at you".

What pundits are saying: Nate Silver reports that Cruz's lead narrowed, noting that one of the polls they cite is a Democrat polling outlet, but FiveThirtyEight is still marking the seat as "Likely R", with a 7-in-9 chance Cruz wins (78.8%).

Texas polls are set to close at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. EST, per Politico.

The race was the most expensive in the U.S. Senate's history and the first to surpass $100 million in total fundraising. According to witnesses, O'Rourke, then in his mid-20s, "lost control of his auto and hit a truck, sending his vehicle careening across the center median into oncoming lanes".

Cruz used the opportunity to go after O'Rourke's out-of-state supporters: "left-wing national activists and left-wing national donors".

"Have you ever actually heard his music?"

In a rare move, Taylor Swift endorsed two Democratic candidates running in Tennessee last month, turning her Instagram into a get-out-and-vote page for her 112 million followers.
