Turkey's Vice President: Khashoggi's killer 'will pay the price'

Sabah newspaper, citing "trusted sources", said Monday that an 11-member team of Saudi investigators that arrived in Turkey nine days after Khashoggi was killed included a chemical expert and a toxicology expert.

Khashoggi, 59, a royal court insider-turned-critic, was killed after entering the consulate on October 2 to obtain paperwork for his upcoming marriage to TurkishHatice Cengiz.

The official, who was not authorised to comment on the record and spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the dispatch of the two men to Turkey "suggests that Khashoggi's slaying was within the knowledge of top Saudi officials".

They described their father as "courageous, generous, and very fearless", and they said they still had faith in the Saudi king to bring their father's killers to justice.

It is the latest in a series of leaks from Turkish officials orchestrated to keep up the pressure on Saudi Arabia and ensuring that the killing is not covered up.

Khashoggi, a permanent USA resident who was living in Virginia, was critical of the Saudi government.

The crown prince has been accused of either masterminding or knowingly permitting Khashoggi's killing in Turkey.

The Saudi government refused to comment for weeks but in the face of worldwide outrage finally conceded that Khashoggi was killed in their consulate, even as they blamed it on rogue Saudi agents.

Saudi Arabia says 18 people have been detained over Mr Khashoggi's killing and the head of its human rights commission told a meeting in Geneva on Monday Riyadh was investigating the case with a view to prosecuting the perpetrators.

During an interview with CNN in Washington, Abdullah Khashoggi, 33, and his brother, Salah, 35, pleaded for Saudi Arabia to return their father's body. "Or he had a peaceful death", Abdullah Khashoggi told the United States network during the interview in Washington.

On Friday, Yasin Aktay, an adviser to Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and reportedly a friend of Khashoggi's, told the newspaper Hurriyet that the journalist's body had been dissolved after the murder.

"I talked about that with the Saudi authorities and I just hope that it happens soon", he said.

Turkey's chief prosecutor said last week that Khashoggi's body was dismembered after he was strangled.

Saudi Arabian billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, an global businessman, said on Sunday that the probe will exonerate the country's leader.

But U.S. Charge d'Affaires Mark Cassayre appeared at the meeting in an observer status, saying that a "thorough, conclusive and transparent investigation (of Khashoggi's death) carried out in accordance with due process with results made public is essential".
