Cameroon stripped of hosting 2019 Africa Cup of Nations

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reportedly stripped the hosting rights of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) from Cameroon because it was struggling to finish building the football venues.

He was speaking after a 10-hour CAF executive meeting held behind closed doors in the Ghanaian capital.

Caf president Ahmad Ahmad says it will work to "determine a new organising country by the end of the year".

Next year's expanded edition of the biennial tournament will be held in June and July, with 24 nations taking part.

The North Africans had been set to stage the 2015 Cup of Nations before being stripped of its hosting rights in a row over the Ebola outbreak.

South Africa, hosts of the 2010 World Cup, could also be a viable option for CAF.

Aside delays as per reports of inspection teams within the last 18 months, security in the country is said to be at high risk.

The final game of the 2018 AWCON would take place on Saturday, as the Super Falcons of Nigeria and the Bayana Bayana fight to be crowned the female champions of Africa.

One of those was to assess the security situation after an increase in violence in the southwest and northwest of the country involving English-speaking separatists and government forces.
