Dallas officer in wrong apartment indicted on murder for shooting man

Grand jury returns murder indictment against ex-Dallas police officer Amber Guyger in the death of Botham Jean.

Guyger was charged with manslaughter three days after 26-year-old Jean's death.

Within days of the manslaughter charge, Johnson pledged to convene a grand jury to more fully examine the shooting. The grand jury had the option to indict Guyger for murder or manslaughter or not indict her at all. Our family, as my wife said, we are hurting deeply but we take some comfort at this time with the decision that the grand jury reached. "We are confident that a dispassionate jury in a fair forum will find Amber not guilty". "I feel for Botham Jean's family, and I can't imagine the pain they are going through".

After the announcement, Jean's mother, Allison Jean, said, "I truly believe that she inflicted tremendous evil on my son".

Botham Jean leads a worship at a Harding University presidential reception in Dallas, Sept. 21, 2017. We go back to our homeland with much grief.

The killing of an unarmed black man by a white officer in uniform sparked demonstrations in the Texas city, with protesters calling for Guyger, a four-year veteran of the Dallas police force, to be charged with murder.

"We presented the evidence and we explained the law", Johnson said. She supports restructuring the citizen review board, expanding bias training for officers and taking input from employees and the community.

She says the agency remains "committed to improving our relationships throughout the city". She was sacked weeks later by the Dallas Police Department.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings issued a statement after the announcement in which he said the indictment was "another step on the long path toward justice for Botham".

"I was not bowing down to any political pressure to try to do it earlier because that was not justice", Johnson said as quoted by the Dallas Morning News. "Please continue to pray for the Jean family".

Above the apartment building where Jean was shot dead in September

Kimberlee Leach, Spokeswoman to Dallas County District Attorney's said by phone that Amber Guyger, 30, yielded to authorities after a grand jury indicted her on a charge of murder in the September 6 death of Botham Jean, 26.

The shooting occurred on September 6, 2018.

Guyger posted a $300,000 bond and will await her trial outside of prison. So it shows she's messy. if you're saying the truth then you don't have to change all of the different narratives. the simple thing as the number of hours she worked that day, we have not gotten exactly how many hours she worked.

According to an arrest warrant, Guyger said she had got off on the wrong floor and because it was dark, she believed she "had encountered a burglar". Jean lived in Apartment 1478, directly above Guyger's. When she went to open the door with her key, it was already slightly ajar, and she was able to enter.

Jean was not the first person shot by the former officer.

The former police officer also said that the person did not follow her commands.

The affidavit said she then drew her weapon and fired twice.

The Star-Telegram, along with several other media outlets, have requested copies of the 911 call Guyger made after the shooting, along with body camera footage worn by the officers who responded.

On Sept. 9, she was arrested on a manslaughter charge and immediately bailed out. Amber Guyger, the officer who killed Jean, was sacked by Hall following the shooting.

"If there is an indictment, it will be a murder indictment", Schulte said. I don't think there is any dispute to that. At the time the force was used - because that's what we look at in all criminal cases, whether it's a police officer or anybody else - when the force was used, her intent was an act clearly risky to human life.
