Ohio State coach Urban Meyer to retire after Rose Bowl

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer to retire after Rose Bowl

Urban Meyer announced his plans to retire as head coach of Ohio State's football team on Tuesday afternoon in a press conference.

The news of Urban Meyer's retirement at Ohio State shouldn't come as a shock to anybody.

It's hard to imagine him leaving Ohio State without ever coaching even one game as the full-time head coach.

Ryan Day, who coached the Buckeyes during Meyer's absence and was promoted this year to offensive coordinator, will take the team's reins upon Meyer's departure. He heads into the game with an 82-9 record during his Ohio State tenure, including a ideal record over archrival MI.

Meyer won three national championships overall, including two at Florida.

Of course, we won't be surprised if Meyer tells the world he wants to spend more time with his family. He said he planned on coming back to coach in 2019. Meyer will depart OSU after a season in which he was suspended for three games over his handling of domestic abuse allegations against an assistant coach.

It's not the first time that Meyer's health has had an impact on his coaching career.

Super Bowl XXXV-winning head coach Bill Billick and XTECH Protective Equipment co-founder Bob Broderick on the technology used to improve the padding used for football players.

Operating under the belief that Meyer will return to coaching in the next two years, these are some of the colleges that could potentially be fits for Meyer to get back in the game.

One of the two still unidentified males was previously deported from the USA and could face federal charges for illegal re-entry. Around 11 p.m., agents arrested three people crossing the border illegally one mile east of the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

"I believe I will not coach again", he added that he was fairly certain in that response.

Ryan Day went 3-0 to start the season as the Buckeyes' head coach, and while the opponents weren't noteworthy, that doesn't mean people weren't taking note of Day's approach and performance. He's a second-year Ohio State assistant who had never before been a head coach.

Meyer's health issues could be one of the reasons for his retirement.

Day was becoming a hot name in coaching circles and his ability to step in and guide the Buckeyes during Meyer's suspension demonstrated his ability as an up-and-coming coach.

Meyer's time in Florida over six years included two national championships.

He came to Ohio State in 2012 and took over a program recovering from scandal. It appeared to be a dream job for the Toledo native and success quickly followed. He later served as offensive coordinator at both Temple and Boston College, working for former Meyer assistant Steve Addazio.

His contract was extended in April by two years through 2022, increasing Meyer's salary to $7.6 million in 2018 with annual 6 percent raises.

He started his head-coaching career at Bowling Green in 2001 and moved on to Utah two seasons later before taking the Florida job in 2005 and rocketing to the top of the college football coaching ranks, a peer of Alabama coach Nick Saban, victor of six national championships.
