Shock as woman Ballon d'Or asked to twerk on stage

French DJ and Ballon d'Or host Martin Solveig has apologized to the inaugural women's victor Ada Hegerberg after a row erupted over a question he posed to her during the award ceremony.

Asked after the conclusion of the ceremony if she felt Solveig's comment was sexist, Hegerberg said, per AP's John Leicester, that she "didn't take it as that at all".

"I didn't mean to offend anyone and I didn't know that this could be seen as such an offense", he said in a video message.

The 23-year-old was presented the award by DJ Martin Solveig, who asked if she would twerk, referring to the sexually provocative dance move popularized by singer Miley Cyrus.

Hegerberg said Solveig also apologized to her personally, even though "I wasn't upset". I didn't really think about it at the time.

In what was a stunning individual 2017/18 season, Hegerberg managed to score a remarkable 49 goals in 32 appearances in all competitions and played a huge role in Lyon's march to their third straight Champions League title.

Ballon d'Or: Ada Hegerberg asked to twerk on stage after winning women's award

"I've had a lot of questions about that subject", she told reporters.

The Ballon d'Or has been given out every year since 1956.

In a furious Instagram rant, former world number one Murray wrote: "Another example of the ridiculous sexism that still exists in sport". Though Solveig later apologised to Hagerberg and "all those who may have been offended", twitter did not hold back in calling out the sexism on stage. "It was the most important people in my life - most of them, some of them were missing - but I am so happy to share this moment with them".

"He came to after the presentation and apologized", she said. And to everyone who thinks I'm overreacting and it was just a joke ... it wasn't.

Hegerberg, a Norwegian striker for Lyon's Olympique Lyonnais football team, beat the likes of England's Lucy Bronze to win the prize, but was left embarrassed while collecting the award from Martin Solveig, a French DJ, and the former French worldwide footballer David Ginola. "It's historic, it's incredible, a great day for women's football and a big step forward". "I share this with Olympique Lyonnais, my teammates, the staff", she beamed after joining men's victor Luka Modric and men's best young player Kylian Mbappe on the stage with her trophy.

That's all well and good for the Comedy side, but oh boy, the competition for the Drama category is going to be fierce. Then again, the HFPA also snubbed him for the first "Creed" as well (Stallone won that year for the film ).
