Trump tells Kim Jong Un he "likes him" in G20 message

Trump tells Kim Jong Un he

US President Donald Trump says he plans to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in either January or February.

Trump said earlier in October that his meeting with Kim would be held after the midterm Congressional elections, and the venue of his second meeting with Kim had been narrowed down to "three or four" locations.

"I think we're going to do one fairly (soon) - into January, February, I think", Trump said in remarks carried by the AFP news agency.

Mr Trump has frequently described a warm personal relationship with Mr Kim, arguing that this rapport would help him succeed at a diplomatic breakthrough that has eluded U.S. presidents since the 1950s.

Moon also emphasized he and Trump agreed that Kim's trip to Seoul would help build a momentum for denuclearization efforts in the Korean peninsula.

But at the moment Kim has little to gain since South Korea and the US are unwilling to ease sanctions before North Korea scraps its nuclear weapons.

USA officials are seeking a "substantive next step" toward denuclearization, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told CNN on Saturday, adding that Washington has been seeing good progress in discussions with Pyongyang.

Differences over how to denuclearize the North have kept the 2 countries from deciding the date and venue of the next summit.

When asked on Saturday if he would ever host Mr. Kim in the United States, Mr. Trump replied: "At some point, yeah".

They agreed on the need for "maintaining vigorous enforcement of existing sanctions to ensure North Korea understands that denuclearisation is the only path", Sanders said.

The leadership of both countries suggests that by the end of 2018 will be the connection of the railroad of the South and the North. Seoul has allocated about 57 million dollars to fix and upgrade the railway infrastructure of the DPRK.

At the most recent summit between Moon and Kim in September, the two leaders committed to reviving economic cooperation when possible, voicing optimism that worldwide sanctions could end and allow such activity.

Speaking to reporters aboard his plane en route to New Zealand, Moon said, "Although we can not be certain, the issue is up to Chairman Kim".
