Browns hire Freddie Kitchens: Instant analysis of Cleveland's new head coach

Williams took over a Browns team that was 2-5-1 to start the year and put them in playoff contention by December.

The most interesting name is Ryan Lindley, who not only is connected to Kitchens through this Browns job, but he was also a quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals from 2012-2014 while Kitchens was on staff.

Kitchens was one of several candidates to interview for the job, including Vikings interim offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski, Saints assistant head coach/tight ends coach Dan Campbell and former Colts and Lions coach Jim Caldwell.

NFL Network reports it doesn't appear Cleveland has made a decision yet, but Kitchens is getting "strong consideration".

However, Spokeswoman Nancy Salmon of Hacienda Healthcare attempted to do damage control with the following statement . Not even able to communicate the fact that she was pregnant", claimed the source.

Mayfield completed 68.4 percent of his passes in his final eight games, tossing 18 touchdowns and making the Browns a fun offense in the process. And even though that arrangement went up in flames and resulted in Jackson's midway through the season, the Browns GM apparently tried to do something similar in his search for the team's next head coach.

He revamped the offensive scheme, using multiple formations and tweaking the game plan to include calls that he knew his players were comfortable running.

This week, Ohio State announced that linebackers coach Bill Davis would be leaving the team to pursue opportunities in the National Football League after one season with the team. "I heard the other day somebody say something about I wasn't ready to be a head coach".

This left me to question, who could Kitchens possibly be thinking about to hire as his coordinators in Cleveland? "I love the town of Cleveland". I'm not going to get involved. Kitchens was a condition of employment for Browns candidates, or at least McCarthy, and they may have dodged a bullet.
