Bruce Arians confirms Byron Leftwich will call plays for Bucs in 2019

The Buccaneers fired Dirk Koetter, who had coached the team the past three seasons, hours after their season-ending loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

"I can't tell you how excited I am to be here", Arians began, praising Licht and the Glazer family ownership.

Licht was vice president of player personnel during Arians' tenure as head coach with the Cardinals.

That's likely why Arians could be named the team's coach as early as Tuesday, according to the Times.

Arians is 66 years old, and retired from the Arizona Cardinals following the 2017 season.

The Bucs, who've finished last in the NFC South seven of the past eight seasons, haven't made the playoffs since 2007 - the second-longest drought in the league.

Other known candidates include Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Vikings defensive coordinator George Edwards and Cowboys defensive coach Kris Richard.
