She then skidded into the other lanes and hit another auto, a light pole and a sound wall.

The craze has come from the Netflix film Bird Box, starring Sandra Bullock.

Lt. Travis Lyman, Layton Police, said the 17-year-old girl driving the pickup truck was with a 16-year-old boy when she chose to attempt the "Bird Box Challenge" and used a beanie as an impromptu blindfold.

No one was injured in the crash - a relief to Netflix, which earlier this month issued a warning to fans of the film to lay off the blindfold stunts. There were no injuries, but she faces charges of reckless driving and both cars were significantly damaged.

"It could have been a lot more serious".

The driver then lost control and slid into the westbound lane, striking a white passenger auto and a light pole near 675 Layton Parkway, Lyman said.

For its part, Netflix has pleaded with people to be safe and avoid hurting themselves with the Bird Box Challenge.

"Unfortunately, this isn't the only case we've seen in the media of someone trying to drive like this", he said.

The driver veered into oncoming traffic and struck a passenger auto.

YouTube pulled the original video but it has been reuploaded on other platforms.

It's also - and I can't believe we're at the point where this actually has to be said - an incredibly risky stunt to pull off the in real world.

Bird Box capped off a year of challenges that included swallowing liquid detergent Tide pods, snorting condoms and even the continuation of the deadly #FireChallenge - which involves setting yourself on fire in front of a camera.

The 17-year-old girl was said to have had a 16-year-old male passenger in the truck with her.
