Huawei punishes staff for tweeting via iPhone, East Asia News & Top Stories

The blunder occurred when outsourced social media handler Sapient experienced "VPN problems" with a desktop computer and therefore used an iPhone with a roaming SIM card in order to send the message on time at midnight, Huawei said in the memo.

Apple may have not sold as many iPhones as it would have wanted during the Christmas quarter, but the iPhone remains the most coveted smartphone out there.

"Huawei is effectively an arm of the Chinese government, and it's more than capable of stealing information from US officials by hacking its devices", Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton said in February 2018. However, despite the calls for a boycott, it appears Huawei has forgotten to instruct its public relations representatives about it because they were caught using an iPhone.

Huawei has taken action against employees that made a tweet that was found to be from an iPhone. Huawei's tweet publicly displayed "Twitter from iPhone" below the message thanks to this recent Twitter change. As a punishment for the blunder the company had demoted the employees by one rank and has also reduced the monthly salaries by $700 (5,000 yuan).

That wasn't even Samsung's biggest issue as of late, with tweeting from an iPhone. This was more than a one-time thing - which it was for Huawei, it sounds like. The idea that people who use an iPhone are now seen as "traitors" in certain circles in China is disturbing. These punishments seem rather harsh, but we're now witnessing an escalating economic war between the United States and China, with Apple and Huawei being the top tech companies in each country that are hurting the most.

It is not the first time that use of the Apple product has given cause for embarrassment.

Huawei has something of a reputation for discipline and strict working conditions. Screenshots of the tweet went viral, prompting all sorts of reactions from users worldwide.

Why does all of this matter? . It looks especially bad for a brand ambassador, as they are hired only to promote the device for the company, and being seen using another phone, makes their promotion a bit useless. The account was shut down and later brought back by the company but without the tweets. This is likely going to continue to happen.

The team eventually deleted the tweet and sent a new one from a masked Twitter client almost four hours later.
