Liverpool defender Joe Gomez to have more surgery on injured leg

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says his team have shown they are mentally equipped to handle a title run-in, having acquitted themselves well in high-pressure situations over the past few years.

Gomez is expected to be out for a minimum of six weeks, ruling him out of games against Manchester United, Everton and both legs against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

He said: "We are still in the Champions League and I am very happy about in a very hard game - yet (listening to some people) at some point it seems we are already through because 'it's only Bayern Munich!'"

"Tottenham? You should never think that a team four or five points behind you are not involved in the title.

It is a tough week for us and we go game by game".

He included the words "now lets wait...." accompanied by the "eyes emoji" clearly talking about Liverpool's game in hand against West Ham.

There were arguments at the beginning of the season that Liverpool would be better off out of Europe so they could focus on becoming domestic champions for the first time since 1990.

The Reds were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Leicester City at Anfield last week as they failed to fully capitalise on Manchester City's defeat by Newcastle United. "We need a good performance to try to win the game there".

Before that, Liverpool went 11 games while allowing two goals just once. That happens, it will happen again this season. If you want to finish the season now then leave.

"But I think they've got too many injuries and I think this is a hard game for us".

If surgery is required then Joe Gomez might not return back to full fitness before the month of March. We will see exactly how we do it. "Now we are on two points and that's why we don't have to look too much at the table".
