There's a New Emoji & We're All Making the Same Joke

There's now a big increase in the skin tone and gender options for the individual people emojis, as well as the people holding hands.

As per a report in Emojipedia, it is the sixth major emoji update since 2014. Music icons finally get their banjo solo, the only new instrument we see.

In addition, new emoji in the latest batch include a yawning face, a person kneeling, a sloth, an otter, an orangutan, a skunk, a flamingo, garlic, a waffle, a falafel, a Hindu temple, ballet shoes, a diya lamp, and more.

"These images are just samples: vendors for mobile phones, PCs, and web platforms will typically use images that fit their overall emoji designs", Unicode Constorium states.

It is maintained by a California-based group made up of representatives of computing companies, software developers and others, who ensure that users of different devices and apps can send emojis to each other.
