Trump says House intel probe has no basis

Earlier Wednesday, Trump had asked where Schiff got the authority to investigate him and accused the congressman of just trying to raise his political profile.

Schiff has indicated that he will re-open parts of the committee probe, which Republicans closed last March, concluding there was no evidence of conspiracy or collusion between Russian Federation and Trump's presidential campaign.

Schiff indicated that the panel had uncovered evidence of such vulnerabilities while under Republican leadership but neglected to pursue it. Last month, the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform scheduled a public hearing with Cohen for February 7, but he Cohen cancelled, citing threats Trump had made to his family.

The intelligence committee also voted Wednesday to send Mueller the transcripts from the panel's earlier Russian Federation investigation.

The committee's decision to release the remaining transcripts to the special counsel will allow Mueller to comb them for inconsistencies, or answers that may not match up with evidence the special counsel has amassed through documents and interviews with the same people. Cohen is still expected to appear before the Senate Intelligence Committee for a closed-door interview next Wednesday. The investigation, Schiff said, would also explore whether Trump or his associates have "sought to influence USA government policy in service of foreign interests" and any potential obstruction into the various investigations.

Employment gains were led by the leisure and hospitality sector, which has added 410,000 jobs over the past year. Economists had expected 158,000 nonfarm payroll growth and the unemployment rate to hold steady at 3.9 percent.

Several congressional committees have been pushing for Cohen to testify publicly or privately before he's due to turn himself in on March 6 to begin serving a three-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to nine felonies.

The intelligence panel's new chairman, California Rep. Adam Schiff, had long said that sending Mueller the transcripts from the probe into Russian election interference would be one of his first actions. Stone is also charged with obstructing the House probe by encouraging one of his associates, NY radio host Randy Credico, to refuse to testify before the House panel in an effort to hide Stone's false statements. It is possible that Mueller could have gained access to the documents through the intelligence agencies that are reviewing them.

In the previous Congress, Schiff tried to send the unredacted transcripts to Mueller, but was stifled by Republicans, who said that Mueller's office had not requested them, CNN noted.

In December, the committee voted to release to the special counsel a transcript of testimony provided by Roger Stone, a former Mr. Trump campaign associate. The witnesses include the president's son Donald Trump Jr., as well as his son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

Stone has pleaded not guilty on charges including lying to Congress related to efforts to learn about plans by WikiLeaks to release stolen information damaging to Democrat Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign.
